The provincial government of Oriental Mindoro hosted the Q2 or Second Quarter Joint Regional Development Council (RDC)-Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Meeting held on June 7 in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

RDC Chairperson and Palawan Governor Jose C. Alvarez and RPOC Chairperson and Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso V. Umali, Jr. presided over the meeting which was attended by Calapan City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro Mayor Angelina F. Tria, Boac, Marinduque Mayor Roberto M. Madla, Buenavista, Marinduque Mayor Russel S. Madrigal, directors and representatives of regional line agencies, local government units, state universities and colleges, and private sector representatives.

The RDC-RPOC members were briefed on the peace and order situation, internal security updates in MIMAROPA, West Philippine Sea and internal security updates in Palawan, Philippine Anti-Drug Abuse Strategy, and updates on Executive Order No. 70, s. 2018.

Meanwhile, Secretary Emmanuel M. de Guzman of Climate Change Commission (CCC) was guest at the meeting. The CCC was confirmed as special non-voting member of the RDC and regular member of the Economic Development Committee.

In his message, Secretary de Guzman expressed his gratitude for the membership confirmation. He regarded the MIMAROPA RDC as the first ever RDC to invite CCC in a Full Council Meeting and confirm its membership to the Council. He assured the Commission’s fruitful participation in RDC activities. He also encouraged everyone to access the Philippine Survival Fund through submission of project proposals.

The Council also approved/endorsed the following: 1) 2018 regional development report; 2) support to RDC SOCCSKSARGEN   Resolution No. 161, s. 2018; 3) proposed construction of Presidential Management Staff building in Puerto Princesa City; and 4) establishment of statistical units and/or positions in national and local government entities in MIMAROPA.

The members, on the other hand, were informed on the 2018 gross regional domestic product, 2018 first semester poverty statistics, report on the 10th RDC-Private Sector Representatives (PSRs)  national convention, regional economic situationer, status of RDC endorsed projects, project monitoring report, SRNH inter-regional committee update, regional El Niño task force update, implementation of environmental laws in tourism destination areas, and new technologies designed for wastewater treatment.

Meanwhile, the RDC awarded plaques of appreciation to Governor Alvarez as Chairperson of the RDC and to the PSRs for their active participation in the RDC and its sectoral committee activities for calendar year (CY) 2016-2019. The RPOC also awarded a plaque of appreciation to Governor Umali as chairperson of the RPOC for CY 2016-2019.

The 3rd quarter joint RDC-RPOC meeting will be held on September 6 in Boac, Marinduque.
