Regional Development Council (RDC) MIMAROPA and Romblon Governor Jose R. Riano administered the oath of newly-appointed Development Administration Committee (DAC) Chairperson and Calapan City Mayor Marilou F. Morillo during the fourth quarter DAC meeting held virtually last November 23. 

Mayor Morillo is the first female mayor of Calapan City. Prior to being elected as a public official, she was a successful entrepreneur in the fields of construction, tourism, and real estate development, among others.

“Sentro ang tao sa ating plano sapagkat taumbayan ang masusunod! Iyan naman po ang mga katagang dala-dala ko mula noong panahon pa lamang ng kampanya na sa ngayon ay aking ipinatutupad sa araw-araw kong pamamahala sa aming mahal na lungsod ng Calapan. Ito rin ang aking sisikaping maisakatuparan sa lahat ng plano, programa, at proyekto dito sa ating rehiyon.” said Morillo.

In her acceptance message, Morillo emphasized the capability of local government units to offer a more granular approach to development especially in macroeconomy, public finance, justice, peace, order, safety, security, and governance sectors.  ​​​​​​​

RDC Vice Chairperson and Regional Director Agustin C. Mendoza of NEDA Regional Office MIMAROPA, who initially served as presiding officer, relinquished his responsibility  as presiding officer  to Mayor Malou after the oathtaking.

Some of the matters discussed by the DAC during the meeting included: the MIMAROPA Regional Development Plan 2023-2028, MIMAROPA Regional Development Investment Program 2023-2028, 2022 MIMAROPA Regional Development Report Preparation Guidelines, implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022-2028 and Memorandum Circular No. 97, s. 2022, and proposed schedule of  2023 RDC meetings.
