The MIMAROPA Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) convened its second quarter sectoral committee meeting through video conference on May 11. MIMAROPA IDC Chairperson and the re-elected Marinduque Governor, Presbitero Velasco Jr. presided over the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Governor Velasco encouraged the members to actively engage and use the meeting as opportunity to share knowledge and support one another in advancing towards the realization of shared vision for the development of the MIMAROPA region.

OIC- Undersecretary Roderick Planta of Investment Programming  Group, NEDA Central Office,  presented the salient feature of the Philippine Water Supply and Sanitation Master Plan (PWSSMP). His presentation focused on the MIMAROPA Water Supply and Sanitation Databook and Regional Roadmap. He shared that as of 2015, 84 percent of the population of MIMAROPA drank water from improved and safe water sources.  Among the provinces, Palawan had the lowest access to safe drinking water at around 69 percent. In terms of basic sanitation, approximately 72 percent of the region’s population had access to improved sanitation. Among the provinces, Marinduque registered the highest access to basic sanitation facilities while Palawan registered the lowest. 

With the presentation made by Usec  Planta, IDC Chairperson Velasco recommended for the conduct of MIMAROPA Water Summit to address the concerns of the water sector in the region. Planta expressed his full support to the proposed conduct of the  summit  to be participated in  by  concerned government agencies for water and sanitation.

Several connectivity infrastructure projects such as Azagra Airport Development Project in Sibuyan Island in Romblon, Balogo International Port Phase II, and the Rehabilitation and Improvement of Gasan Port Project both located in Marinduque were recommended to the MIMAROPA Regional Development Council (RDC), for endorsement to the Department of Transportation.​​​​​​​

Regional Director Agustin Mendoza of the NEDA Regional Office in MIMAROPA presented the proposed creation of IDC Power and Energy Technical Working Group  and  the proposed conduct of CALABARZON– MIMAROPA inter-regional IDC meeting which were approved by the  committee.

Mr. Efren Nagrama of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Cluster II provided the members with a walkthrough on the draft Comprehensive Airport Safety Ordinance that local government units-hosting airports in the region are enjoined to pass, and was recommended for MIMAROPA RDC support. Meanwhile,  Department of Public Works and Highways in MIMAROPA shared its  major infrastructure projects proposed for funding under the General Appropriations Act FY 2023.
