The NEDA Regional Office (NRO) in MIMAROPA participated at the third quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) held in Calapan City on September 10. The activity aimed to assess the efficiency and usefulness of the preparations, responses, recovery plans, systems, and policies developed in the localities and various offices.
The activity was spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) MIMAROPA through the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) MIMAROPA. The agency also graced the Online Ceremonial Pressing of the Button through Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) webinar series.
The drill also aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and to strengthen the contingency plans of local government units in relation to earthquake, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19) crisis and other similar events.
Ten NRO MIMAROPA personnel actively participated in all phases of the earthquake drill while maintaining physical distance and wearing face masks. The drill consisted of a three-minute siren to indicate shaking while the participants were in a duck-cover-hold position under the tables and in safe areas in their respective work stations. After the alarm, participants headed to the designated assembly area at the parking lot where a headcount was done. Upon checking that all employees were safe and after the building inspection, all staff returned to their respective stations.
This quarter’s earthquake drill adopted the official hashtag #BidaAngHanda to boost information, education, and communication campaign. Photos and videos of full participation and coordination among agencies and private institutions were posted on their social media accounts.
