The Office of the Cabinet Secretariat (OCS) and Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), in collaboration with the MIMAROPA Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS), National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office (NRO) MIMAROPA, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) MIMAROPA, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) MIMAROPA, Philippine National Police (PNP) MIMAROPA, and Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro conducted the 5th installment of the Kasama sa Pamana: Regional Pre-SONA Series on May 25 in Calapan City.

Cusi graced the event, which was participated in by Department of Energy (DOE)  Undersecretary Alexander S. Lopez, South Luzon Commander LtGen. Antonio G. Parlade, Jr., NRO MIMAROPA Regional Director (RD) Agustin C. Mendoza, DILG MIMAROPA RD Wilhelm M. Suyko, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) MIMAROPA RD  Dir. Manuel B. Wong, PNP MIMAROPA RD PBGen. Nelson B. Bondoc, 203rd Infantry Brigade Commander BGen. Jose Augusto V. Villareal, Calapan City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan and representatives from regional line agencies and local government units in the region.

The activity, in preparation for the sixth and last State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July, aims to inform citizens in MIMAROPA of the numerous achievements of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration and plans for the rest of his term.

In his welcome remarks, Cabinet Secretary Nograles showcased the major accomplishments of the current administration. He deliberated the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Zero Hunger, a program he chairs that addresses hunger, poverty, and malnutrition in the country accentuating the importance of implementing the National Food Policy (NFP) as an effective whole-of-government-approach in partnership with private sectors, civil society, academe, people’s organizations, and stakeholders.

Secretary Nograles also presented the six key result areas (KRAs) of the IATF on Zero Hunger. KRA 1 reviewed and rationalized existing policies, rules, regulations related to Executive Order No. 101, s. 2020, which mandates “Creating an Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger.” KRA 2 ensured available and affordable food through the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program, a banner program of the Task Force aimed at mitigating hunger ensure food and nutrition security, and reduce poverty in urban and rural communities, including marginal communities. KRA 3, on the other hand, secured nutrition adequacy by instigating delivery of nutrition services, feeding programs, and food distributions. KRA 4 secured food accessibility and safety through  the ARBold program of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Diskwento Caravans, and Farm Productivity Assistance. KRA 5 ensured sustainable food systems, resiliency, and food stability during emergencies that focused on aiding farmers and fisher folks by affording indemnity insurance for their crops. Lastly, KRA 6 ensured information, education, awareness, and people participation with the endeavors of the Task Force through Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG), a project that delivered direct assistance to affected families and individuals, such as the distribution of hot meals to frontliners and nutritious meals to children in communities in priority areas.

Department of Health  MIMAROPA RD  Mario S. Baquilod featured a comprehensive report on the COVID-19 pandemic response which stresses the National Vaccination Deployment Plan (NVDP). As of May 24, a total of 8,443 COVID-19 cases was recorded in the region. The intensification of master listing of eligible population, increasing vaccination teams and posts, target of 100 vaccinees per post daily, establishment of a mega vaccination site and private vaccination posts, and observation of minimum health standards were recommended to ramp-up vaccination process in the region.

In his closing remarks, PIA Director General Usec. Ramon L. Cualoping III highlighted PRRD’s legacy: 1) a drug-free Philippines; 2) golden age infrastructure through the Build, Build, Build Program; 3) ending communist armed conflict; 4) decent livelihood; 5) Pilipinas Kontra Gutom; 6) establishment of Malasakit Centers; and 7) COVID-19 response through ResBakuna. He emphasized that PRRD’s legacy for a better Philippines has become a reality.
