The NEDA Regional Office (NRO)  in MIMAROPA led the conduct of a consultation meeting with the local government units (LGUs) hosting airports and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)  on the draft Comprehensive Airport Safety Ordinance for  MIMAROPA  on May 16,  through video conference.

Regional Director (RD) Agustin Mendoza of NRO MIMAROPA extended his appreciation to CAAP for leading in the formulation of policy to ensure that all airports in MIMAROPA  are compliant with the standards set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Mr. Efren N. Nagrama of CAAP Area Cluster II presented the salient features of the proposed Comprehensive Airport Safety Ordinance covering operational safety, operational security, environmental management, and emergency response preparedness. Mr. Nagrama expressed his high hopes that this consultation meeting would generate support from LGUs to adopt the Comprehensive Airport Safety Ordinance in their localities. He also emphasized the full commitment of CAAP by providing necessary assistance, information, and policies to reinforce LGUs in passing the said ordinance.

The LGUs present in the consultation aired their concerns on the passing of the Comprehensive Airport Safety Ordinance in their respective municipalities and provinces, to which the CAAP representatives responded that they will provide the necessary assistance that would be required from them.

NRO MIMAROPA ARD Apollo Edwin S. Pagano, in his closing remarks, recognized the challenge of persuading  concerned LGUs to adopt and enforce the Comprehensive Airport Safety Ordinance. ARD Pagano assured that NRO MIMAROPA is one with the CAAP and the LGUs in attaining high standard airport safety and security for  MIMAROPA.
