The monitoring team is composed of representatives from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Office of the President – Presidential Management Staff (OP-PMS), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and members of the provincial local monitoring committee of Oriental Mindoro.

The team verified the status of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood/river control project in Mansalay, road project in support to agricultural production in Gloria, diversion/by-pass road leading to tourism sites in Puerto Galera, expansion of permanent bridges and the Mindoro Cross-Island road project in Victoria, and road improvement and the Regional Government Center (RGC) in Calapan City.

When completed, the Mindoro Cross-Island road project will enable fast and efficient transportation system, effective delivery of public service, vibrant trade and commerce, improve tourism activities between Oriental and Occidental Mindoro and with its neighboring provinces, and easy access to the Regional Government Center being established in Calapan City.

This catalytic road connectivity project is also complemented by ongoing improvement and expansion of arterial roads, major roads, bridges, ports and airports along the strong republic nautical highway (SRNH) in the island of Mindoro.

The RPMT also monitored the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rural Development Projects (DA-PRDP), which include Veggie Noodles Processing and Marketing Center in Pinamalayan, Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) Production and Marketing in Pola, and farm-to-market road in San Teodoro. The VCO project was completed and is awaiting for the turnover to the Cooperative beneficiary.

A well-established and organized production area and processing facilities with the complementation of farm-to-market roads would also contribute to the region’s promising economy.

The RPMT also visited the ongoing expansion of Puerto Galera Port and improvement of Passenger Terminal Building 1 & 2 in Calapan City Port under the Philippine Ports Authority. Both port development projects were ahead of schedule and are expected to be completed in 2023.

The safety and convenience of commuters along the West Philippine seaboard SRNH will be  enhanced upon the completion and full operation of Calapan port passenger terminal building and Puerto Galera port expansion in February and April of 2023, respectively.

The 4-day activity concluded with an exit conference attended by representatives from the DPWH Regional and District Offices, PPA-PMO, and Provincial Planning and Development Office in Oriental Mindoro. The findings of the team and recommendations to improve project implementation were presented.
