The provincial government of Romblon hosted the conduct of the Luzon Regional Development Committee (RDCom) meeting held on March 20 in Aglicay Beach, Alcantara, Romblon.

RDC 4-B Chairman and Romblon Governor Eduardo C. Firmalo presided the meeting which was attended by Vice Chairman Nestor G. Rillon of RDC 1, Vice Chairperson Mary Anne ER. Darauay of RDC 2, Vice Chairman Romeo C. Escandor of RDC 4-B, and representatives from RDC CAR, RDC 3, RDC 4-A, RDC 5, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Regional Development Staff (RDS). Dir. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay of DOST 4-B and RED Cipriano G. Santiago of DA IV-B were also present during the meeting.

Among the agenda deliberated upon was the Luzon Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) presented by Mr. Agustin Mendoza of NEDA Region 3. LSDF aims to integrate frameworks of the various regional physical plans in Luzon. It adopted the three (3) core strategies namely: concentration; connectivity; and vulnerability reduction. Other issues discussed were: preparation for the ASEAN integration led by NRO 4-B; composition of private sector representatives (PSRs) in NEDA Board Regional Development Committee (NBRDCom) by Luzon PSRs; and e-marketing website by DOST 4-B.

The LSDF technical working group (TWG) will convene on April 10 in San Fernando, Pampanga to finalize the draft LSDF for presentation in the next RDCom meeting.

On the other hand, the Luzon RDCom led by Gov. Firmalo also conducted a site visit on selected places in the province of Romblon. Among the sites visited are: Looc Fish Sanctuary, a protected marine area in the middle of the bay at Looc; Romblon Provincial Hospital; Romblon Capitol; Saint Joseph Cathedral, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the province; and a local marble processing plant.
