The MIMAROPA Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) tackled and recommended for RDC endorsement and approval of the draft  Regional Development Report (RDR), and the proposed port zone delineation (PZD) of ports  of Borac in Coron, and of  San Fernando in El Nido, both in the province of Palawan. IDC Chairperson and Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. presided over the IDC online meeting through  zoom video conference on May 7.

In his message, Governor Velasco emphasized that the year 2020 was a very challenging year. He encouraged everyone to assess the real scenario that happened in the infrastructure sector in 2020, and to plan for ways forward for this year and the coming years. He was hopeful to have a better scenario – no more pandemic – just lessons learned and better government.

IDC Secretary and Chief  Roy A, Dimayuga of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the NEDA Regional Office (NRO) in  MIMAROPA, presented the draft 2020 RDR specific to the infrastructure sector. The draft 2020 RDR was recommended for RDC approval subject to revisions based on comments and additional inputs from the members.

Engineering Services Division Manager Marlon Sendaydiego  of the PPA-PMO Palawan, presented the proposed PZD  of port of Borac in Coron, and port of San Fernando in El Nido, both in the province of Palawan. The proposed PZD plans aim to identify the metes and bounds of the ports that will be the basis of future port development, and to hasten the economic growth of the municipalities of Coron and El Nido and the neighboring localities. The Committee recommended the proposed port zone delineation plans for RDC endorsement to the Office of the President.

The members were also updated on the status of the National Broadband Plan, Department of Public Works and Highways big ticket projects, major irrigation projects, and the local public transport route plan or LPTRP in the region.

Also during the meeting, RDC Vice Chairperson and out-going Regional Director of NRO-MIMAROPA Susan A. Sumbeling received a certificate of appreciation from the IDC, recognizing her valuable contribution and active participation in the deliberation of infrastructure concerns in  MIMAROPA. Sumbeling will be assigned to NRO in Cordillera Autonomous Region.
