A total of 31 local government units (LGUs) received financial assistance from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) MIMAROPA during the signing of Memorandum of Agreement for the establishment of materials recovery facility (MRF) on March 13, 2018 at Cherry Blossoms Hotel in Ermita, Manila.

The said assistance amounts to P500,000.00 per recipient, inclusive of the mobile shredder and fund for the establishment of MRF in the various municipalities.

Among the recipients of the financial grants in Oriental Mindoro are the municipalities of Bansud, Bongabong, Bulalacao, Gloria, Mansalay, Roxas, San Teodoro, and Victoria.

Recipients from Occidental Mindoro are the LGUs of Looc, Lubang, Paluan, and Rizal, while the LGU of Sta. Cruz is the lone receiver form the province of Marinduque.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Romblon which received financial assistance are composed of Alcantara, Banton, Cajidiocan, Concepcion, Romblon, San Agustin, San Andres, San Fernando, San Jose, and Sta. Maria.

Municipalities from the province of Palawan also received grants namely, Araceli, Culion, Cuyo, Dumara, Linapacan, Magsaysay, Rizal, and San Vicente.

The said financial assistance came from the solid waste management (SWM) section of the EMB MIMAROPA, allocated by the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC).

It comes as a part of the implementation of the Republic Act 9003, also known as the Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 which provides for an ecological solid waste management program, creating the necessary institutional mechanism and incentives, declaring certain acts prohibited and providing penalties, appropriating funds therefor, and for other purposes.


Among the other kinds of assistance provided by the SWM section of EMB MIMAROPA to the LGUs include helping the municipalities’ efforts in the safe closure and rehabilitation plan, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns, and trainings with regard to ecological solid waste management.
