NEDA MIMAROPA conducts training on project development

The NEDA Regional Office (NRO) in MIMAROPA, in partnership with the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro, conducted a training on project development for the provincial government’s technical staff on September 11-13, 2018 in Calapan City. Twenty development workers from various departments of the local government participated in the said training.

Lectures, open forum, presentation of sample exercises, workshops and case applications were conducted during the training. Meanwhile, the project development cycle, basic concepts of feasibility study preparation such as market, technical, institutional, environmental, social impact, financial, economic, and logical framework preparation were some of the topics discussed.

Ms. Jobelle Cruzado, focal person for the MIMAROPA Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Knowledge Corner, gave an orientation on the Philippine PPP program including the basic concepts and processes of PPP.

With the guidance of the NEDA Project Development Assistance Team led by OIC Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling, and Mr. Bernardino Atienza, Jr., team leader, the participants were able to produce three (3) proposals on water supply system, education, and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Ms. Tina Alegre of the Provincial Planning and Development Office of the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro, emphasized the importance of conducting trainings in project proposal preparation. She encouraged the participants to propose strategic projects which will help the province in achieving its goal and objectives.

The training is the first capacity development activity of NRO MIMAROPA Project Development Assistance Team (PDATs). It recently created two (2) teams that will serve as resource persons during project development trainings. These teams are composed of selected NRO MIMAROPA technical staff with relevant background on project development or have attended investment appraisal course organized by the NEDA Central Office.

The purpose of creating the PDAT is to strengthen the capacity of NRO MIMAROPA personnel and to improve the provision of techinical assistance to MIMAROPA stakeholders.
