The NEDA Regional Office (NRO) in MIMAROPA conducted an orientation for the new set of Regional Development Council (RDC) private sector representatives (PSRs) on June 21 at City Garden Suites Hotel in Ermita, Manila.
Acting RDC Vice Chairperson and NRO MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director (RD) Susan A. Sumbeling together with OIC Assistant RD Bernardino A. Atienza, Jr. led the orientation which was participated in by new RDC PSRs.
The orientation aimed to provide the PSRs a more comprehensive information and understanding on the structure, functions, and responsibilities of the RDC and its sectoral committees including the roles of PSRs in the RDC. Also tackled was the Regional Project Monitoring Committee and the administrative and financial matters concerning PSRs.
Mr. Rodne R. Galicha of Bayay Sibuyanon, Inc. shared his experiences during his stint as PSR to the RDC for two consecutive terms. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities given to them as PSRs such as collaborating and engaging with government agencies specifically with the policy and decision makers in the region. He also emphasized the need for PSRs to study and conduct research on issues concerning the region for them to be able to actively participate during RDC and sectoral committee meetings. He also stressed the commitment of PSRs to contribute to regional development.
In her closing remarks, RD Sumbeling encouraged the new set of PSRs to actively participate in all RDC meetings and activities. She said that the partnership between the government and private sector is essential in pursuing development for MIMAROPA. She also asked for the strong commitment of PSRs to be partners of development.
The newly selected RDC PSRs will be confirmed during the RDC special meeting on July 31 in Metro Manila.
