The NEDA Regional Office (NRO) in MIMAROPA conducted an activity on gendere and development (GAD) with the theme “Promoting Gener Equality and Women Empowerment in the Workplace” recently at Piña Colina Resort in Tagytay City. The activity was participated in by NRO MIMAROPA officials and staff.
OIC Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling, in her opening remarks, shared the NEDA GAD Agenda 2019-2025. She discussed the GAD strategic framework and GAD strategic plan 2019-2025. Sumbeling stated that the NEDA GAD Agenda must be considered in the formulation of NRO MIMAROPA’s work program for 2019.
Assistant Director for Gender and Development Maria Theresa A. Hernandez of Batangas State University, served as resource person during the activity. She shared her knowledge expertise on gender mainstreaming and its importance to achieve gender equality and women empowerment in the workplace.
Hernandez also oriented the participants on the gender mainstreaming evaluation framework (GMEF) and discussed how to accomplish the assessment questionnaires. After the orientation, a short exercise was conducted wherein participants were asked to use the GMEF to assess the agency’s efforts in integrating GAD.
The activity aimed to create and facilitate a platform to discuss good practices, gaps, challenges, and commitments in promoting gender equality and women empowerment in the work place and inspire and empower all NRO MIMAROPA employees to contribute in the promotion of gender equality and women empowerment.
