In line with the celebration of the Economic and Financial Literacy Week, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) MIMAROPA conducted an economic forum on November 6, 2017 at the Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT) audio visual room in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
NEDA MIMAROPA gathered students and instructors from state universities and colleges and other private higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region.
In her welcome remarks, OIC Assistant Regional Director Susan A. Sumbeling of NEDA MIMAROPA highlighted the theme “O Kita Mo Na: ‘Pag May Alam sa Ekonomiya at Pinansya, Malaki ang Ganansya”. She underscored the importance of economic and financial literacy as important mechanism in the realization of the 2040 vision of a “Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay para sa Lahat”.
The activity aimed to improve the participants’ understanding, particularly the youth and workers in the formal and informal sectors, of economic and financial concepts to help them earn sustainably, and to provide insights and tools that will enable the participants to make informed and sound financial decisions.
Ms. Melanie N. Condes of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Southern Luzon, Ms. Maribel . Bernardo of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) MIMAROPA, and Dr. Christian C. Agutaya of MinSCAT provided the participants with information on the economic and financial concepts such as demand and supply analysis, inflation rate, interest rate, return on investments, among others. The trends and measurement methodology on National Income Accounts were also discussed.
The lectures and open forum which ensued provided the participants with significant insights that will enable them to make informed and sound financial decisions.
Chief Economic Development Specialist Bernardino A. Atienza, Jr. of NEDA MIMAROPA extended appreciation to the speakers and reminded the participants on the importance of translating the theories presented into concrete actions in order to secure financial future.
