MIMAROPA’s Keep Hope Alive receives 2018 National Outstanding Volunteer award

MIMAROPA’s Keep Hope Alive (KHA), an organization based in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro, receives the 2018 National Outstanding Volunteer Award under the Organization (Not for profit) category during the Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) awarding ceremony held on December 3  at the Sequioa Hotel, Quezon City.

The SOV is an annual search which highlights the exemplary performance and dedication to service of Filipino volunteers in helping people and communities and recognize the role of volunteerism in development and nation-building.

It is also   one of the major activities in celebration of the National Volunteer Month held every month of December spearheaded by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency.

The NEDA Regional Office in  MIMAROPA promoted and conducted the search in the region which includes the generation of information, validation of nominees, and preparation of documentation of nominations.

Mr. Shernan F. Gamol, KHA’s founder received the award in behalf of the organization’s youth volunteers. The KHA is  one of the nine  awardees from among the 59 nominees around the country.

The KHA is a youth volunteer organization that aims to contribute to sustainable community development and foster inclusive youth empowerment through volunteerism and community outreach projects and activities. The main beneficiaries of their initiatives are Mangyancommunities and vulnerable groups.

Some of KHA’s initiatives are: Balik-Eskwela program wherein school supplies are being provided to less fortunate students; Project Bantay Kalusugan which aims to contribute to health and wellness of Mangyancommunities by providing access to health services; and AgroPositibowhich aims to address nutritional issues through sustainable feeding program and nutritional improvement interventions.
