MIMAROPA RGADC elects new chairperson, creates TWG

The MIMAROPA Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) during its joint meeting with the Social Development Committee (SDC) on August 7, through  Zoom video conference, elected its  new RGADC chairperson for the remainder of the 2020-2022 term.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA OIC Regional Director (RD) Purificacion R. Arriola replaces the same office’s RD, Floreceli G. Gunio, who retired in February early this year.

The joint meeting also produced the RGADC Technical Working Group (TWG) that will facilitate the effective implementation of the RGADC Strategic Plan 2020-2025. The team will also assist the committee in handling concerns on women’s economic empowerment; social development rights; gender in security, justice, and peace; gender in environment and climate change; and gender-responsive governance. The TWG will work closely together and ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the MIMAROPA RGADC Strategic Plan 2020-2025.

Besides gender and development concerns, the joint committee meeting also discussed and recommended the Regional Development Council (RDC)  approval of the following: 1) 2019 Regional Development Report specific to social sector; 2) Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) Resolution No. 1,  seeking support from  RDC MIMAROPA to request all local government units in the region to provide healthy and nutritious food packs during disasters, calamities and public health emergencies; and 3) creation of Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa  (BP2) Program Committee.

In addition, the SDC-RGADC members were informed and updated on the opening of classes in basic and higher education, status of Social Amelioration Program implementation, COVID-19 situational report, teenage pregnancy cases in MIMAROPA, and elderly abuse.

The meeting was presided over by SDC Chairperson Marvi R. Trudeau together with RGADC Co-Chairperson Dr. Elsa Manarpaac.

The joint SDC-RGADC 4th quarter meeting will be held on  November 6.
