COUNCIL FOR THE WELFARE OF CHILDREN
02 October 2018
FOR: REGIONAL COMMITTEES/SUB-COMMITTEES FOR THE WELFARE OF CHILDREN
FROM: THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR V
SUBJECT: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE NATIONAL YOUNG PEOPLE’S PLANNING FORUM ON HIV/AIDS
In the interest of meaningfully and ethically involving children and young people in policy-making, the Council for the Welfare of Children, in partnership with UNICEF Philippines, will hold its 4th National Young People’s Planning Forum on October 28-30, 2018.
The National Young People’s Planning Forum (NYPPF) is an event mainly spearheaded by the Committee on Children and HIV/AIDS (ComCHA) of the Council for the Welfare of Children that is conducted to provide an opportunity for children and young people to share their views, experience, good practices, and models of successful children and young people led responses to HIV and AIDS. The 1st NYPPF in 2008 was hailed globally as a good practice of essential and genuine child participation in the context of policy formulation as its outputs formed part of the strategic response by the Philippines to issues on children and HIV/AIDS.
Currently, the 4th NYPPF has a general objective to provide an avenue for children and young people to develop and craft a strategic operational response to the 6th AIDS Medium Term Plan published by the Philippine National AIDS Council for 2017-2022. It will be attended by over two hundred (200) participants from all three island clusters in the Philippines, with selected children and young people also serving as animators/facilitators during the forum proper.
Relative to this, we would like to seek for your support by extending this invitation to the agencies / local government units / organizations / similar networks within your region to invite children or young persons from their organizations or that they are supporting. Since there will still be a committee to screen all potential participants because of limited slots, your organization/agency may invite as many children as you deem fit for the following criteria:
A. Child or young person aged 15 to 24 years old;
B. Representing any of the key stakeholder groups (in-school, out-of-school, practicing behavior with high HIV risks, adolescent living with HIV, youth religious groups, student councils, youth in governance like the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of selected cities, gay and lesbian organizations, PLHIV groups or groups of people affected, street theatre groups, and similar categorizations);
C. Has basic knowledge on HIV;
D. Has demonstrated leadership skills and willingness to be involved in scaling up HIV response.
We will be reimbursing all transportation fares of participants and we will also be paying for their accommodation and meal expenses during the event.
The deadline for submission of the name(s) of the nominee(s) with the duly filled out accomplished form and the necessary requirements shall be on or before October 9, 2018 at 5:00 P.M.
We look forward to your response on this matter as we continue our commitment to protect and nurture the Filipino children.
Thank you very much,
MARY MITZI “MITCH” CAJAYON-UY
